Dr. C. Michael  Kelly  for appointment call Kris B. at 1-402-361-5207

I have been in the practice of Orthopedics in Omaha , Nebraska since July 1985. I was raised in Rochester , Minnesota in a family of eight children. I had an early exposure to Orthopedics as my father was in charge of the Orthopedic Training Program at the Mayo Clinic as well as developing a basic science lab investigating blood flow in bone and osteoporosis. This lab is still active today. My Undergraduate training was at the University of Minnesota in Morris, Minnesota . I attended Medical school at Creighton University in Omaha , NE. . My Orthopedic training was in Cleveland , Ohio at Case Western Reserve University. Following this, I took a Fellowship in Total Joint Replacement Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in 1984. My wife and I have six children. Three girls, ages 27, 25, 23 and three boys, ages 22, 19, and 16. We also have two Golden Retrievers named Molly and Moses.

My practice is almost exclusively that of the care of arthritis of the hip and knee. As of  July 1st, 200 8 I have performed 4585 joint replacements of which there have been 1568 total knee , 1035 partial-knee, 256 total knee revisions, 1312 total hips, and 414 hip revisions.

I  believe that education is an integral part of the treatment of arthritis affecting the hip and knee. I offer educational seminars two times a month dealing with the subjects of knee and hip arthritis and the surgical and non-surgical treatment of those conditions.  I have two web sites that I update monthly at www.avoidtotalknee.com and www.midwesthipandknee.com.

Approximately 78% of my knee surgeries at this time are partial or uni-compartmental knee replacements. I have performed this procedure since 1985. In 2001 I began doing this through a minimally invasive approach utilizing a 3 inch incision. The muscle or tendon is not cut allowing for a faster recovery.  I have performed  983 of these procedures. If you are interested in this type of surgery, we will get an MRI scan of your knee prior to surgery to see if you are a candidate. The rehabilitation is fairly rapid with many patients getting onto a cane by 5 to 10 days and physical therapy for only 3 weeks after surgery. To learn more about this procedure visit the link on my website at www.avoidtotalknee.com  I do 15 to 20 of these procedures each month.

On June 5, 2006 I began performing the Zimmer  “gender specific knee”.  These knee implants are made specifically for women.

In May 2004 I began doing ceramic total hip replacement.

In March 2008 I began performing the Zimmer hip using "Kinectiv" Technology allowing for more accurate placement of natural hip centers taking into account the differences in the male and female hip.

If you have attended one of my free seminars and wish to make an appointment, call my secretary Kris at 1-402-361-5207. If possible, please bring any recent x-rays or MRI's to your appointment. Thanks
